The Altun Shan
The Altun Shan range lies at 93,3°O und 39,3°N, between the Tarim Basin and Qaidam Bain in northwest China. Its unspoiled grassland and oasis landscape is protected by an extensive nature reserve to which access is restricted.



The high plateau lies at an average of 4.500 m above sea level;
its highest peak reaches 5.798 m.


Winter extends over nine months and infrastructure is practically inexistent.
